The India

21 College Hill, London

The India brings London a confident sweep of North Indian tandoori craft and British-Indian comfort. It's the kind of place that nudges conversation along as readily as it stirs the appetite. Inside, rich scents of charcoal and spice set the scene with vibrant appetisers like Chicken 65 cooked with spring onions and red peppers, or jumbo garlic king prawns roasted beautifully in the tandoori oven. From the grill, tandoori chicken marinated in ginger and garlic arrives with that signature lick of smoke, while sizzling lamb chops land at the table still humming with heat. Delving deeper, standout house specials range from the Nawabi lamb shank, slow-cooked for depth and richness, to South Indian garlic chilli chicken, where fire, fragrance and a barbecued char meet in perfect balance. Time-honoured traditions take centre stage among the British Raj Favourites, nodding to beloved classics: a creamy tikka masala, whether chicken or lamb, and a silken butter chicken that soothes as it satisfies. Fragrant rice dishes share the spotlight, offering biryani fans aromatic vegetable and chicken versions layered through basmati rice and warming seasonings. Expect a lively rhythm, where the crackle of hot plates and savoury aromas set an easy, welcoming tone. Gather friends, follow your nose, and let The India Cannon Street do the rest - curry favour with a booking and savour the moment.
